Angelika was born and raised in Germany and moved to Minneapolis after she finished high school. In Minneapolis, she attended the University of Minnesota and obtained a BS in chemistry in 2010. After a short stint at Boston College, where she worked toward a PhD in organometallic chemistry, Angelika returned to Minnesota to pursue a PhD in materials science and engineering under the guidance of Professor Marc Hillmyer. In the Hillmyer group, she worked on the polymerization of cyclic hemiacetal esters for the production of hydrolytically degradable plastics.

Angelika's areas of research expertise include monomer and polymer synthesis, polymerization kinetics and mechanism, and polymer characterization. She also studies the structure and phase behavior of weakly charged copolyelectrolyte complexes and mobility of di- and triblock copolyelectrolytes.
