The Institute for Molecular Engineering is founded on the principle of collaborative problem-solving, not rigid academic disciplines. Our team is made up of researchers and innovators who each bring a unique skill set and expertise.
As both an academic unit and research institute, IME’s organizational structure transcends traditional academic designations. We appoint our own faculty, whose positions come with a dual appointment at Argonne National Laboratory. Students of all research interests and backgrounds can take advantage of our innovative educational opportunities as we join the force to build the future of this nascent field.
Founded by Pritzker Director Matthew Tirrell in 2011, IME now boasts a core faculty of twelve and will expand rapidly in the near future by an additional three to five faculty members each year, with the eventual goal of having 25 full-time faculty within the next five to eight years.
