The MEET Battery Research Center at the University of Münster and the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding to expand collaboration around next-generation battery research. The goal of the MOU is to foster greater cooperation between the institutions through joint seminars, summer schools, workshops, conferences, and the exchange of students and PhD students.
While the exchange in battery research will be the initial focus of the MOU, other fields may also be jointly researched in the future.
Continued International Progress
“This Memorandum of Understanding is an important step for MEET Battery Research Center as we seek to provide solutions to a global concern,” said Prof. Martin Winter, scientific leadership of MEET Battery Research Center and director of Helmholtz Institute Münster of Forschungszentrum Jülich.
Y. Shirley Meng, professor of molecular engineering at the University of Chicago, and Winter have already collaborated closely on next-generation battery research. The MOU formalizes this relationship and allows for the scope of research to be expanded.
“As we seek solutions to the pressing global challenge of energy, I am glad to expand our partnership with Dr. Martin Winter and the MEET Battery Research Center,” said Meng.
The MOU was officially signed in September by Juan de Pablo, Executive Vice President for Science, Innovation, National Laboratories, and Global Initiatives, and senior scientist at Argonne National Laboratory, and Prof. Johannes Wessels, rector of the University of Münster.
