How to Apply
All applicants must submit an online application, personal statement of research interests, three letters of recommendation, transcript(s) from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended, and a $90 nonrefundable application fee. Requests for application fee waivers will be considered on an individual basis.
Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in a STEM field (physical, biological, or computational sciences), and should provide official scores for the GRE general test. The relevant GRE subject test scores will be considered if submitted, and could strengthen an application, but are not strictly required. Non-native English speakers should also provide official TOEFL scores, and may wish to review the English Language Requirements when preparing the application. The University of Chicago's institution code is 1832 for sending both GRE and TOEFL scores; a department code is not necessary. UChicagoGRAD provides additional information about the application process, including answers to frequently asked questions and details about campus life.
Our application opens in September for enrollment the following autumn. Once you create your account, you should choose the regular application for the year in which you plan to enroll (e.g. "2018 Regular" if you are applying to the full-time PhD program and plan to enroll in autumn 2018).
Applications are due January 5, 2018.
