Dr. Sharon Feng is the Senior Associate Dean for Budget and Strategy of the Institute for Molecular Engineering. In her current position, Feng serves a key leadership role in planning, coordinating, and directing broad and complex financial, operational and management functions at the Institute as well as acting as a high-level interface between the institute, its partners, and industry.
Prior to joining IME, Feng was the Vice President of Business Development and Innovation for Bayer MaterialScience LLC, one of the world’s largest producers of high-performance polymeric raw materials. In that position, Feng was responsible for innovation activities in NAFTA region, including identifying growth opportunities through scouting new technologies, defining R&D strategy to support business growth by identified market needs, optimizing product portfolio and establishing open innovation partnerships.
Feng received her PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from MIT in 1991. After her postdoctoral work at the Medical University of South Carolina, she joined Bayer in 1992. Throughout her 20-year tenure, she held various positions in Asia and North America with increased responsibilities in the areas of R&D, marketing, and operations. Feng is known for her expertise in developing novel materials for coatings and adhesives applications. In addition, Feng is a member of the Board of Directors of Koppers Holding Inc, a world leader in manufacturing of carbon materials. She chairs the Safety, Health and Environmental Committee on the board.
