Industrial partners are crucial to university’s mission of translating scientific discoveries into social progress and impactful technological solutions. Thus, in the Fall of 2015 the Institute for Molecular Engineering and Physical Sciences Division jointly launched a new Industrial Affiliates Program charged with facilitating the translation of knowledge gained in academic research into impactful technological solutions, providing avenues for intellectual exchange between industrial and academic researchers, and improving access to talent in both the academic and industrial domains.
The Industrial Affiliates Program offers three levels of membership. Affiliate members enjoy an assigned liaison, invitation to an annual member-only research conference and mid-year workshop, facilitated access to faculty and project development, as well as VIP treatment at an annual recruiting event and year-round recruiting resources. Supporting members can sponsor a named fellowship for a graduate student or postdoc, or send an industrial researcher to spend a period of time at the university in our researcher-in-residence program. Collaborating members sponsor research projects that are identified jointly with faculty.
This structure offers a unique value proposition to our industrial partners that is efficient (streamlined administrative processing, IP negotiations, etc.), effective (facilitated project development and management), and yet still flexible (tailored to each company’s needs).
We are actively forming a group of strategically-aligned industrial partners, and welcome new potential partners to join the conversation.
