IBM research director comes to IME and Argonne

Supratik Guha, an extremely well-respected and accomplished scientific leader with an incredible track record of translating science and engineering breakthroughs into industry-relevant technologies, has been named a professor at the University of Chicago's Institute for Molecular Engineering (IME). Guha has also been named the next director of the Nanoscience and Technology Division at Argonne National Laboratory, as well as director of the Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne National Laboratory. In addition to managing and coordinating the research efforts of the NST division and leading the CNM’s community of roughly 500 annual users, Supratik will also help build new partnerships.

Supratik comes to IME and Argonne from IBM, where he has served since 2010 as Director of Physical Sciences. Supratik led the materials science work that resulted in the development of high dielectric constant oxide metal gate technology for silicon-based integrated circuits. This technology is used today by IBM and a number of its partners in mainframes as well as in the majority of smartphones and tablets that are currently sold worldwide. His expertise and experience in solving technical challenges will enable Argonne to continue to develop novel solutions in energy, the environment, and national security.
