David Awschalom named honorary professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University

Professor David Awschalom, currently the Liew Family Professor in Molecular Engineering, has recently been named "Honorary University Professor" at Xi'an Jiaotong University, due to his high academic achievements and international influence in the fields of spintronics and solid state quantum information processing. The distinguished professorship includes an upcoming university visit, campus lectures, and taking part in an academic exchange program.

Xi'an Jiaotong University is one of the top science and technology universities in China, and will celebrate its 120th anniversary this year. Originally dedicated in 1896 in Shanghai, the university is among the oldest seats of higher learning in China. Relocated to Xi'an in 1956, it has since developed into a comprehensive university system with a faculty of more than 5,000 instructing some 30,000 students majoring in 19 departments and schools, including medicine, economics, engineering, law, and education. The university also operates three medical centers and four national research laboratories.
